Risks Covered
Basic Cover
Protects farmers against non-preventable natural risks impacting crop yields provides yield loss insurance for standing crops from sowing to harvesting.

- Drought and dry spells
- Flood and inundation
- Widespread pest and disease attacks
- Landslides and natural fire (due to lightning)
- Storm, hailstorm, and cyclone
Add-On Coverage
Apart from the mandatory basic cover, State Governments/UT Administrations, in consultation with the State Level Coordination Committee on Crop Insurance (SLCCCI) may choose any or all of the following add-on covers.
Prevented Sowing / Planting /Germination Risk
Insured area is prevented from sowing/planting/germination due to deficit rainfall or adverse seasonal/climatic conditions.
Mid-Season Adversity
Loss in case of adverse seasonal conditions during the crop season viz. floods, prolonged dry spells and severe drought etc.,
Post-Harvest Losses
Coverage is available only up to a maximum period of two weeks from harvesting & covers specific perils- hailstorm, cyclone, cyclonic rains and unseasonal rains.
Localized Calamities
Loss/damage to notified insured crops resulting from occurrence of identified localized risks of hailstorm, landslide, inundation, cloud burst and natural fire due to lightening affecting isolated farms in the notified area.
Wild Animal Attack Coverage (Optional)
The States/UTs may consider providing add-on coverage for crop loss due to the attack by wild animals wherever the risk is perceived to be substantial and is identifiable.

Premium subsidy: Balance premium shared equally by Centre & State. For Himalayan & NER States/UTs, subsidy sharing is 90:10 (Centre:State). Farmers pay only the rates shown above.

Land Possession Certificate (LPC)
Equivalent land records proving ownership / possession
Sharecropper / Tenant Document
Contract or document defined by State Govt. to identify sharecropper / tenant farmer
Aadhaar Card
For identity verification and linkage
Sowing Certificate / Self-Declaration
Self-declaration of proposed crop or sown crop with details of area
Bank Passbook
For premium deduction and direct claim settlement to your account
How to Enrol — Step by Step
The enrolment process is simple and can be completed in one visit.

Gather Documents
Collect land records, Aadhaar, bank passbook & sowing certificate

Visit Channel
Go to nearest CSC, bank branch, or use the PMFBY portal/app

Fill Application
Submit crop details, area, and season information with documents

Pay Premium
Pay only 2% (Kharif) / 1.5% (Rabi) / 5% (Commercial) of sum insured

Get Confirmation
Receive policy confirmation with coverage details via SMS/app

Claim Status
PMFBY provides 5 types of claim coverage. Some are triggered automatically at the area level, while others require individual farmer intimation within 72 hours.

Types of Claims
Each claim type has a different trigger mechanism and farmer action requirement.
Yield Loss Claims
Wide-spread calamities affecting the entire Insurance Unit. Yield calculated via Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) or technology-derived estimates.
Prevented / Failed Sowing
Triggered when >75% of normal sown area in the Insurance Unit experienced unsown / prevented sowing / germination failure.
Mid-Season Adversity
Immediate on-account relief during floods, drought, dry spells — when expected yield drops below 50% of normal yield.
Localized Calamity Claims
Hailstorm, landslide, inundation, cloud burst, or fire due to lightning affecting isolated farms. Calculated at individual farm level.

Post-Harvest Loss Claims
Covers hailstorm, cyclone, cyclonic rains & unseasonal rains within 2 weeks of harvesting. Calculated at individual farm level.
